Founded in 1921, ASC is a state-supported comprehensive institution and is accredited by North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, National Association of Schools of Music, Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs.
ASC has received Program of Excellence awards in some of its program (ie. business, and graduate counseling) from the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.
The campus is situated in Alamosa, Colorado, in the San Luis Valley 220 miles south of Denver.
